Error 1402 When Launching Project
Error Message 1402
Error message 1402 relates to errors in accessing a registry key for an application. The registry keys hold the data needed for each different user of a program, so not being able to access or modify a key means that the application can't run. The error message is more likely to occur when the program is being installed, launched for the first time after installation or after a user profile has been changed.
Permissions settings
If the registry file holding the key for an application is set up to allow less rights for non-administrative users, then it may stop normal user accounts from accessing the key. Check with your computer system's administrator to ensure that permissions are set so that your user profile can access and change the registry.
Security software
Some security programs -- Microsoft cites WebRoot Spysweeper, for example -- control access to the registry. You should switch off any registry checking software prior to attempting to launch an application that is giving Error 1402 messages. If that fails, re-install the application with the security program switched off.
