How to Put Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire Netbook

1. Disconnect all peripherals from Aspire notebook, including your printer, external mouse, webcams and external hard drives. If your system has an earlier version of Windows installed, such as Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can install Windows 7 as an upgrade, which will keep all of your files intact. Simply insert the Windows 7 disc into your Aspire's disc drive and follow the prompts to upgrade to Windows 7. To perform a clean install of the operating system, back up all of your important files and proceed to Step 2.
2. Restart your computer and tap 'F12' when you see the Acer logo to access the Acer Advanced Boot Menu. Insert the Acer-provided Windows 7 disc, which is labelled 'Acer System CD,' or a Windows 7 disc of your own, then use the arrow keys to select 'CDROM' and press enter. Wait while the system boots to the disc and loads the Acer Recovery Software or the Windows 7 setup. If you are using the Acer disc, proceed to Step 3; if you are using a Windows 7 disc, jump to Step 4.
3. Click 'Restore System from CD/DVD' on the Acer Recovery screen. The program copies files from the Acer System CD to your hard drive and then reboots. Don't press 'F10' this time; just let the system load to the Windows Setup, the files for which are now on your hard drive. Accept the license agreement and then click 'Next.' Enter your username and choose your location and language, then click next. Wait while the Windows 7 setup configures your system. Your computer will reboot several times during this process.
4. Click 'Next' on the Install Windows page when booting from the Windows 7 disc to perform a fresh install of Windows 7. Choose your language and location, and click 'Next' again. You now have a few different options for how to install Windows 7 on your Aspire. Click 'Custom' and then 'Drive Options (advanced)' to see the different ways to install the operating system. You can format your hard drive, or clear your partitions and create new ones, but this is up to you. To perform a clean install, you have to format your hard drive but you do not have to adjust partitions if you don't want to. Choose the installation type that's best for you and click 'Next' to begin the automated installation process.
