How to Copy Windows 7 OS to a Flash Drive
1. Insert the flash drive into your USB port. If done correctly, a popup in the bottom right corner of your screen should indicate that a new USB storage device has been discovered.
2. Run the DiskPart utility, which is preinstalled on any Windows 7 computer. Simply type 'diskpart' into the search bar and hit Enter.
3. Type 'list disk' to identify your storage device and press enter. This will show you a list of your available storage devices. Disk 0 will usually be your hard drive, and Disk 1 should be your USB storage device, though double-check the size of the storage device -- listed under 'Size' in diskpart -- to make sure that it matches up accurately with your flash drive.
4. Type 'Select Disk 1,' and press Enter. Type 'Clean' to format the flash drive, type 'create partition primary' and press enter to create a data space, and type 'Select partition 1' to select the newly created data space. Now that you've created your data space and selected it, enter the word 'Active,' followed by 'Format FS=fat32 quick' to prepare the flash drive, and then finish up by typing in 'assign'. After this is done, your flash drive will be configured to operate like a bootable DVD.
5. Copy everything from your Windows 7 DVD onto your USB device. This can be done simply by opening My Computer, opening your DVD drive folder, opening your Flash Drive folder, and dragging the contents from your DVD to your flash drive.
